    Login with facebook, twitter etc
    Hi All

Im maybe embracing login with facebook  and twitter.

I know this will add more to my terms and conditions.

But i wondered if anyone knew of advantages, or what it gives you.

I deal with marketing on a clothing brand which heavily relys on facebook pixel.
Facebook pixel does awesome for me with facebook analytics and targeting for campaigns.

I wondered does login with facebook give tthe same?

If someone signsup with facebook can i see their facebook page?
Does it collect info good for facebook analytics?

or is it as simple as just fetching their email, name, dob?

    About social engine database
Is there any detailed guide about the tables created by social engine? I am looking for the detailed information for each action of social engine what data is written to which tables.
      • 1
Donna This tutorial, http://support.socialengine.com/php/customer/en/portal/articles/2121821-how-to-remove-delete-a-plugin-from-your-website?b_id=14386 , mentions where to find the database files. That would probably be the best place to look for information as to what tables are made. We don't have a tutorial that shows everything done but the files will be a key to much of the information you need.

Terms and Conditions, privacy and cookies
As much as this is a feature request / suggestion, this kind of stems to both Social Engine and all 3rd parties.

As SE knows their script inside and out, I was wondering if SE would look into providing templates of Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy and Cookie policy for all countries that potentially buy their products.

As cookie policies you have to list all the cookies your site has and what each does etc, and this can be hard as us buyers dont fully know all the cookies that are implimented and their functions.

This cookie request goes to 3rd party devs also, if SE makes it mandatory for them to disclose all cookies names, and functions to the buyers.

And if the 3rd party can provide any suggestions based on terms and conditions that could arrise as per that plugins function.

Generic templates are hard for social networks, esp as there is unique functions other sites dont have

Mikel Coreclark Hei. I have had some experience in creating terms and cons and cookies.

Trust me, Its a tricky path to walk.
However , I have quiet a good T and C page, privacy page and a basic section on cookies. Also a section on rule breaking, punishment system, harassment, bullying, stalking, slander, criminal activity, selling, personal information (as my members have to register their personal address for security and legal reasons).
FELL FREE TO COPY AND ALTER WHAT YOU LIKE. that best helps you.
My pages are best set for the UK but some clauses relate to international territories and laws. I have kept everything simple and generic so it does not scare people away plus most members will not read them anyway. But these can give you a starting hand.
here is my site url: majuuna.com
      hope this helps

Donna Thank you for your feedback.

This is not something we can do as there are too many areas to consider. Countries/States/Provinces, etc all can have their own requirements.

However, there are a lot of places online that offer assistance with these concerns. For my own site, after I crafted my terms and privacy policies, I had a local attorney that is versed in internet laws look them over. Due to legalities involved, we recommend clients do the same.

For cookie policies, clients can check for recommendations from different sources. Since many use Google and other analytics, there are recommendations at those sites for how to handle the cookie issue.

Having users be required to agree to your terms and privacy policies is a great idea as they are acknowledging that they agree before they join. Generally, the privacy policy contains details for information collected (cookies).

Here's a basic cookie policy from Vimeo which is a good example: https://vimeo.com/cookie_policy

      and one from LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/legal/cookie-policy

That should help you see the various ways in which your site can use cookies and how to put a policy together. I keep mine in the privacy policy.

Note when creating your policies not to copy any from sources such as what I linked. They have copyright policies and this can fall under those policies. Plus, with Google's policy against duplicate posts, you could also get in a mess with Google if copying policies from other sites. It's best to just use them as guidelines to put your own policies together and then have legal sources look them over.

      Hope this was helpful.

Licences and callbacks to verify products
This is something that's bothered me for a while.

more so played on my mind.

can the process of the licences with SE and 3rd parties be explained.

there was a day basically that I installed a plugin, and when activating on install, it wouldn't have it. I searched online for the devs website and it was temporarily down.
soon as site was up again, the plugin installed.

there was another time also where I was on my site and a plugin completely failed to work, the widgets just wasn't displaying, I cleared cache everything and still no joy.... and discovered the devs website was down for maintenance...

now these issues coild could have been 100% coinsidental.
ans I never questioned it until someone asked me to help them on their se site.

but they asked this question on licences.

they asked do these plugins only work based on the companies still being active.
they said what if I buy this plugin install it, their site is down for maintence, database errors or they decided to give it all up.....

what happens then, because how would you save settings of a plugin, that shows the callback product key code that's linked to their website.

so yea how does this work, could we spend thousands on our site and potentially because the licences communicate with devs, if they left or site was down, does that kill all our plugins by that company?

and if their site is down for maintenance, does that kill the plugin from functioning until their site is up and running again????

Donna We do understand our clients' concerns and we will keep this topic open for discussions. Feel free to discuss this but please do keep confidential issues private and please do not post any coding examples for any that do come and respond.

[508,PoeticJustice] we will be considering our clients' concerns with regards to callbacks that keep an open connection. We will be discussing matters and have answers soon.

SocialEngineAddOns [508,PoeticJustice] , SocialEngineAddOns licensing system callbacks to verify valid product installs only. Our plugins will keep on working fine even if our website goes down; there is absolutely no dependence there.

PS: Topics such as Licensing system are highly confidential and should not be discussed on public forums.

You can do a PM in case you have any queries.

Donna We've answered in the other thread asking about the cores by third parties. I'll have more details today I hope. We don't want callbacks such as you describe. That's the biggest concern from clients today and prospective clients as well.

Content Privacy Settings - honour the settings
I remember seeing this recently as a Bug that was fixed (at least in some SE modules).  This post is primarily for SE to respond.

My question here is this: Have 3rd-Party Devs been notified of this and urged to fix their similar bugs?  For example, Plugins from one specific Dev experienced this same issue since I began using their Plugins (2015), but they refused to address the issue.  Now that it's a known-SE Issue, they are willing to fix their related bugs as well.  But, although 3+ months ago they said they would fix this in 7-8 weeks, when I asked last week I was informed they haven't even started (it seems security/privacy isn't as important as other issues).  So I'm wondering:
    A) Has SE notified/requested Devs to fix these related bugs (if they have any)
    B) If above is Yes, how urgent or 'required' is this request (i.e. so that Devs will address this exposure issue immediately rather than whenever, or not at all)

      • 1
Donna We have not notified developers as it is their responsibility to fix their privacy issues. They will see that we've fixed it though as we will definitely post the changelogs which they all like to see. :)

4.9.3 has all of the plugins (SE plugins) fixed for privacy btw.

3rd-Party Cores going away? ADMINs able to view some SE2Dev discussions?
    Two-fold (but related) question:
    1.  In an email exchange with 8 3rd-Party Devs re: their upgrades to 4.9.xx, one of them mentioned (no I won't say who) that their Core would be removed soon as per a request from SE to all Devs.  Is this true?

    2.  The above (as well as many items related to 4.9.xx upgrade over the past 6+ months, such as MarketPlace, reviews, etc) seem to be disclosed/discussed with 3rd-Party Devs but not with ADMINs.  Obviously there may be some things that may be no business of ADMINs but there are others that may be of interest (for planning purposes, input/suggestions, etc.).  Is it simply a policy issue to not share things like this with us ADMINs?  Also, am I the only ADMIN that's interested in this type of info (i.e. because if so, I would never ask SE to make changes for one ADMIN, so this Topic could be deleted)?

      • 1
PoeticJustice As in removing their core, do you mean the devs basic plugins that have to be installed prior to a plugin, is set to be removed.

Hell yea im up for them cores to become obsolete, except social engine solutions basic core because that has features and widget that I find useful
      • 1
      Mikel Coreclark Hei GS.
Just 1 question, Have you asked the devs why they are to remove Cores ?
This is not confirmed by SE or any 3rd party Devs so should not be taken as fact.
If I remember correctly or not, a long time ago on several release notes by devs, I read that as new SE tech and script is released '3rd party dev cores' would not be needed and may/should be fazed out over time.

I don't expect devs to stop using cores if it was going to harm their products at this time or in the future unless they had updates for products already in use.
On an older site I had, a few apps/modules started off with cores but then devs released updates that made cores not needed. This had no impact on my site, in fact things worked better.
Since you have a greater relationship with devs than I do maybe you can ask for confirmation ?

4.9.xx Plugin List is Alphabetical but Isn't?
I'm sure this isn't an SE issue (which is why I'm asking here first rather than initially posting an issue @ github).

What is actually controlling the order in this list?  For example, I have some items that are not alpha (based on the displayed information) but are (if only looking at the Plugin name).  Example is HE - Credits and HE - Virtual Gifts - the first is in alpha based on 'C' and the second based on 'V' but due to the 'HE' before it, it looks out of order.

When this new feature was discussed (not sure if here or github or both), I mentioned this would only be userful/accurate if it was consistent - and SE would have to require Devs to be consistent (which they may have been).  I suggested that being alpha would be helpful if the Dev name preceeded it (which based on my list, SES and SEAO are doing, but 4 other devs are not).  So this new 'alpha' order isn't really alpha due to Devs still doing whatever they wish to do.

Not sure what ADMINs would prefer about the sequence.  Although I prefer to be alpha (with Dev name preceeding Plugin name, in order to keep them grouped together), others may wish differently.  So I guess I have a two-fold question here:
    A)  Specifically, what is this order based on
    B)  What format do Devs prefer (Dev + Plugin names or just Plugin name)?

      • 1
Donna As a site owner, I prefer them to be Alpha order. Yes, it is hard to find plugins if they are not. I don't add a lot of plugins and only use the ones I make but I have seen client sites with many plugins and it is very hard to find things without sorting.

As a dev, I prefer them alpha as well - Dev name with product name. Or at least dev abbreviation with product name.
