      Donna If you don't want to have both, you don't have to. You could just use the amazon for the user file storage.

      You could try cloudflare for speeding the site static files. I use it on mine. I haven't tried the extra caching as it could cause issues with other functions. Might be worth testing. Cloudflare is free.

      Gabry Hello , before checking with monitor , flush your redis cache redis-cli FLUSHALL ... then command redis-cli MONITOR to see if redis works or not ... for me is working good , i can see activity from website in real time ... remember to close monitor after this as is eating a lot of resources.PS: remember also to start or restart your redis server , maybe is not working that;s way you can;t see anything.

    How 3rd party developers are harming themselves
    This is not a exclusive problem from SE, but here this type of problem is worst than another script that I work with.

    Is really common that 3rd party developers compete with each other with their products, however with several people offering plugins that include features that are more core features than an addon is almost impossible to utilize plugins from two or three different developers. And there is still the problem when developers create a plugin that is not compatible with others plugin from themselves.

    Some of problems that I face everyday.

    - Each developer has a own way to develop plugin and when you need to customize it you will face a serious headache. SEAO themes will work only with SEAO plugin, since Younetco plugin has CSS class and ID with their company name (YN). This is one of reason why themes from developers that dont develop plugin always have some type of problem with 3rd party plugins.
    - Younetco doesnt have a good pages plugin so I need to use the version from SEAO, however Younetco has a good Advanced Vídeo with a feature that SEAO doesnt have. Can I use the Younetco plugin? No. Why? Because the Younetco version doesnt integrate with SEAO pages and I need to pay a money truck to this.
    - Some months ago I acquired the feedback plugin from SEAO and also nested plugin. Can I use the feedback plugin? No. Why? Because their plugins are incompatible and the feedback plugin only work with the default SE comment system. Guess who will be disabled?
    - SEAO doesnt have an advanced blog system. Can I use the younetco? No. Why? Because there is a credit plugin in development from SEAO and doesnt make sense invest in a plugin that will not be supported.
    - Recently I acquired the Mobile/Theme because the responsive template doesnt work so fine as it should. The numbers of items in menus from Social Engine create a poor UI and this is the reason why is better to use a plugin to simulate the mobile vision. Can I use my advanced video with mobile/table plugin? No. Why? Because they are incompatible.

    Notice that I am neither talking about the native apps that are in most of case a ripoff. USD 79 by month for support with a starter fee of USD 299 (599 if you want to publish in you own store) is not the kind of thing anyone can afford to pay even more with Trump raising the price of the dollar. Can I use the Ipragmatech mobile version or younetco version? No. Why? Because they are incompatible.

    I really would like that SE and their 3rd party developers could agree on some points.

    1- If you release a plugin it must be compatible with your own plugin.
    2- If you are creating plugins dont make them problem to purchase plugins or themes from another developer.

      Marc @Leandro and @Gs, I feel your pain too!
      We have SE since 2009, in fact we started with SE 3 migrating later to SE 4. Over the years, we have seen the very beginning of some of the developers that we, owners, can name strong and reliable. The non-compatibility with themes/plugins is a real headache!! I really understand both of you.

      For us now it is clear: Socialengine Solutions and SEAO are the best (Hire-Experts are great too) however, we are a little "upset" with SEAO (we have seen them born) because they really PUSH site admins to only have their plugins, and theme, and this is something we dislike because as site owners we would like to have the freedom to choose which plugin fits best for us, for our projects. But they are very, very good developers then, we do not mind to continue "suffering" :)

      As per Blogs, we can say there is no better plugin than the one from Socialengine Solutions. When we saw it...we said OMG! It has beautiful design, well coded and it is very complete but....guess what? We also have Mobile-Tablet plugin from SEAO and...we can not have Blogs on mobile because it is not compatible! Well, only their plugins and SE basic plugins are compatible. So we have Blogs on desktop and no blogs at all on mobile. And same story with other plugins.

      So my wish for 2017 would be that some developers work more on integration of their plugins with 3rd party ones, by default I mean. Because of course any integration can be possible paying lots for customization. I mean by default.

      And btw...Hi @SocialengineSolutions (as you are also part of this conversation) You already know how much we love you! Excellent plugins, 10+++ customer service, and very, very good developers. Keep with the good job! ;)

      Hi @Donna

      Dave I would add to the above remarks, make sure your plugin is tested and works before releasing them. Also, do not charge me for support for fixing your own plugins. I'm tired of 3rd party developers selling me support for their own scripts. If you design a plugin and I buy it, I expect you to support that plugin - period! Where's the incentive for 3rd party developers to provide a bug free plugin, when they can make a fortune selling support? Do they build in an obsolescence that kicks in after 60 to 90 days?

      Sieg I post my first review in the new marketplace. I dont know if is a bad review, I mean the plugin doesnt work to me (that use a latin language with several accents) but work for others so I am not sure if this is the best way to review a app. By my experience and considering other scripts that I worked with the main reasons why someone complain about a plugin is: I - Bad Support, II - Plugin compatibility with plugins from the same developer, III - Plugin compatibility with plugins from others developers, IV - Lack of Development Standard and feature standard (where I include design problems like a plugin where logic is completly different from all others plugins like Younetco RSS Feed), V - Scam (where I include omission of important information about the plugin that would make a client not buy him).

      I think that more than a Thumb up/down or star review we could make a more granular control of problems. Bad support by example is a problem of developer and not plugin by itself. You can have an awesome plugin with a real bad support that would make any client to avoid it. The points II, III and IV are plugin problems that users can contribute throuhg a list (like the github ticket) of issues that the developer can solve or not.

      Just notice that I am not suggesting a public support system in the marketplace for itens II, III e IV, I just think that if I as a client have an important information about compatibility of plugins (and I have several) I would be happy if this would help others users to avoid the same problem that I have. There is nothing worst that buy a plugin and after a couple of hours working with it discover that it will not working properly for you. Another member here saved me from spend some bucks with a Younetco plugin that work completly different from any other plugin developed in the Social Engine Marketplace. I think that we all want that developers still working to provide better plugin with a minimum of issues to all users.

    How Comments Works is Killing Me
    Hello,

    I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, but comments on social engine are not simple as it should be.

    I commented in a status update published by another a week ago. Now these guy answered my comment. If I not use the notification link, I will need to scroll two weeks of content until I found the content.

    Facebook, by example, refresh the content to put it on the top of the feed and seems much more better than scroll weeks of content.

      Donna I don't see a setting for this. However, I could have missed it as well. I suggest adding this as an enhancement request at our github issue tracker as it could be a useful setting. https://github.com/socialengine/phpv4-issues/issues

      You could also get a customization done if you need it faster than new features are added.

    How to disallow users to select some languages
    Hello,

    I am facing some problems with my website language. Actually I am targeting only brazilian users since this is my country and I would like to establish my website firstly in my country before to move on. The problem is that how there is a English language (the default language from SE) sometimes english speaker signup in my website and I have to try to explain to then why there is a lot of content in portuguese but not in their language. I would like to know if there is an option to turn off a language for user selection? I can't just delete the English folder because I have some developers that work on my website and they only speak English. I am looking for something like an option to turn off the language selection for some user level.
      • 2
      (deleted) I was not sure if you had multiple language options you might want selected. But naturally just has Donna offered... just remove the language selector from the registration from in the same file listed below.
      • 2
      (deleted) I would say to set your primary language as the default and then see about editing a few files in

      /application/modules/User/Form/Signup/Account.php

      If you only want to display set language options on the sign up form you can do the following

      Find the code:

      if (count($languageNameList) > 1) {
      $this->addElement('Select', 'language', array(
      'label' => 'Language',
      'multiOptions' => $languageNameList,
      'tabindex' => $tabIndex++,

      Change it to:

      if (count($languageNameList) > 1) {
      $this->addElement('Select', 'language', array(
      'label' => 'Language',
      'multiOptions' => array(
      'en' => 'English',
      'en_US' => 'US English',
      ),

      As you can see you can add a list of the language options you want able to be selected during the signup process. This will only change the signup form so your developers can go into their account settings and change their language to English. Or you can even remove the language selection options fully from the signup form and from the member account settings and then just manually change the developers account language in the database. But of course you cannot delete the English language files, this just removes the options for everyone to only select the options you want and hides the others from selection but still enables you to manually assign the languages in the database.

      Will this work?
      • 1
      Donna I don't see a way to disable language selection. Perhaps installing Bing Translate in the site would help with the English folks to be able to read the language on the site, as a temporary solution. I suppose you could hide the language selector from the template.

    Social Engine and MailChimp Integration
    Hello,

    Is there some plugin that integrate Social Engine with MailChimp? I am looking for a plugin that syncronize my SE users with Mailchimp List and I found only one plugin that is actually outdated.
      • 1
      magnus There are many ways to make it work, depending on if it is the signup e-mails you want. I have managed to get all new signups to Mailchimp and MadMimi this ways:
      1. Mailschimp <- Zapier.com <- New user Mail sent from SocialEnginePhp (the one that goes to admin)
      2. MAilchimp <- Zapier.com <- SocialEnginePhp (MySQLdB): Here I use Zapiers MySql connecor. The connector only takes new users that are added in the dB.

      Both works like a charm.

      Best

      // froste
      • 1
      Eugene Will csv export/import work for you here? Or do you need auto-sync?
      • 1
      (deleted) That was only one plugin that I was aware of and I used it back a long time ago and it worked well for adding users to a MailChimp list but I have not used it in a few years. It was outdated then but still worked. I assume we are talking about the same plugin. I do not of any others at the moment.

    SE need a Third Party Development Standard Policy
    Hello,

    I am using Social Engine for a year and I am starting to get tired to deal with issues with developer. Never in my almost 5 years working with communities and scripts I needed to open so many tickets to developer to fix issues so basic that they neither should exist.

    This is a topic that I opened and show one clear example of the lack of a developement standard: http://community.onsocialengine.com/post/5766717/how-to-remove-notifications

    To maintain the quality and also avoid issues with plugins from different SE developers I think that SE team should create a policy with standards of developement like never put the name of a plugin in the frontend or put links to their websites. I have a plugin that even disabled still working in my website and other that if I install the core plugin it mess with a plugin from another because it bring a special widget.

      • 1
      (deleted) I am annoyed right now myself that one plugin links to a .css file on their server or how some plugins are dependent on the 3rd party's servers to work. (I am not talking about licensing functions here either) If a 3rd party were having networking errors or forbid that they shutter business and things stop working for good. And it is very annoying for myself also that they do use their names in their module directories so when source code is viewed it clearly shows a 3rd party name. I am not even happy with adding things like "Advanced" or "adv" to the folder names. I have been playing around for a little bit on renaming the directory and then going through all the code and database entries of the module and changing where it looks for the files to point to my custom directory. It seems a few things need to be changed in SE also, like the active_modules_directories files and other stuff. But I have not figured it all out exactly yet as I have just been playing with this idea here and there. But I will get it eventually mark my words.

      Donna Thanks for your post. I believe I answered this in another post you had before. Yes, we have had this in the works for a while now and you should see improvement soon. :)

    How to Remove Notifications?
    Hello,

    I am starting to get tired with issues with third party, its insane the quantity of tickets that I already opened to solve bugs and problems due a lack of development standart in Social Engine.

    Below is my next challenge, remove notifications that still in my website even when I disabled the plugin or disabled an option in the plugin that make these notifications useless.

    I take a screenshot of my user notification tab:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1Vh7_gHrCMHX0kxbXBJRXhKM0U

    1- As you can see I have notification options from plugins that neither are enabled anymore.

    2- I have notification option with the name of the plugin. C'mon, someone really think that admin like when users know which plugin are running in the website?

    3- How can I disable some of these notifications? There are several notifications options in the suggestion groups that are useless since I disabled all these features in the own plugin setting.

    Is there someplace where this informations is stored? I started to figure out that several settings from SE are stored in the database, but I couldnt identify where can I go to manually delete some of these unused entries.
      • 2
      (deleted) You can edit almost all of that yourself from the admin panel or in your database using some mysql GUI program. Change the name of the modules to remove the "advanced" is what I did from the database itself or edit from the language packages settings. You can also remove options for notifications from the SE Admin panel if they are showing up when disabled until it can be fixed.

      PoeticJustice New to this community i raised something similar to this on github https://github.com/SocialEngine/phpv4-issues/issues/566 , and i must say users seeing what plugin is being used, is just ridiculous, i had to buy webhive accessmanager to restrict that notifications page, but i need to log into EVVVVERY account to disable, because it admin notifications settings lacks features of an overide, soon as i installed a new plugin after have 700 users, the new plugin automatically enabled notifications for the past 700 members.
      • 1
      gs I need the same thing, but for a different reason. I wanted to minimize the # notifications (esp email notifications), so I will be having a Dev create a customization that allows (for each notification):
      - Admin can enable/disable the notification
      - Admin can create a default for each notification (which then get's copied to each new User, so rather than hundreds of triggers creating notifications, dozens will instead by default).

      Again - I wish SE did this by default (I was actually surprised to find out it didn't). But I've found that there seems to be very little control Admin has over some obvious processes.

      For your issue, it seems that if/when SE creates a proper Uninstall Plugin function (and of course the Dev has to code properly for SE standards) that this may resolve your issue (if 'everything' gets removed when a Plugin is uninstalled).

    How to Make Redirections?
    Hello!
    I am thinking in to make a test in my website. I am considering to hide some sections like the album directory and member directory from user access. I could just hide the links in the menu, but to ensure that no user can access the link anymore I would like to redirect any user that tried to access this section to the activity feed.
    I tried to place a URL redirect directly in the htaccess, but it doesnt worked, someone already tried to do this?

      • 1
      (deleted) Did you get your answer to this Leandro?
      • 1
      Donna I've asked the team how to do this as it's not something I've had to do yet. Your htaccess sounds like it should have worked.

      The only thing I could think to do for albums is to change the member level permissions which works to not allow access but it doesn't redirect.

    Social Engine PHP Suggestions for Improvements
    This is a list of things where Social Engine could improve in their script. I will not try to explain how in details how  this can achieve, because I dont understand deeply the script, but I will try to give some tips.

    1- Make Social Engine Faster: Please make the script faster. SE lacks some options like the possibility to use a external server for caching or to convert videos with FFMPEG. With the actual setting everything must be installed in the same server and we could gain some speed if we could use an option to use a second server for load balance using memcache, by example.
    2- Minify JS and CSS: I am using google pagespeed to minify SE JS and CSS, but this procedure isnt completly reliable. The number of JS and CSS files increase fastly when you start to install third party plugins and each file is a new request that slow your website. The possibility of minify everything in a master file will help some website to increase their speeds.
    3- Create a Uninstalling Routine: If you brought a plugin and stop to use it is impossible to unistall it. You can only disable it, but considering that I already saw disabled plugin requesting for files in my system SE should consider a unistalling routine for plugins.
    4- Improve Activity Feed Action Search: Please create a search box or something to allow us to search between all actions of activity feed items in the backend. Actually I need to look each possible action scrolling the box what take a lot of time. For those that dont know this is the setting that I am talking about "admin/activity/settings/types"
    5- Improve Translation Tool: A better search and a box where we could identify/filter from what plugin the phrase is a good start. I think that to a real better translating system we would need a complete rewrite, because sometimes third party developers use the same terms for different plugins and if you translate one you translate both. Others scripts normally use unique phrases ids something like "pluginname.term" so if I have two plugins called pages I would have phrases like "hire.pages" and "seao.pages".
    6- Currency Localization: SE still using dots (.) for decimals and commas (,) for thousands following the USA currency standard. Several countries use the oposite like my mother language the portuguese. An option to change the use of commas and dots for numbers will help us to finally localize the website to our language.
    7- GIF Support: Please make SE support GIFs.

      • 1
      Eugene > 1- Make Social Engine Faster

      Upgrade to Zend Framework 3 will automatically give speed boost. Without any extra changes, as it's optimized for speed with php7.

      > 2- Minify JS and CSS

      Scaffold CSS library used right now is obsolete (no longer in development). Switching to something newer will open more possibilities for theme/plugin development.

      > 3- Create a Uninstalling Routine

      This is more complex than it sounds. But SE can give some options for 3rd party developers here. For example to include uninstall instructions into a plugin as a requirement. The thing is some developers don't include any mysql code into plugin setup at all. Using that as a protection against piracy. So uninstallation is indeed pretty complex sometimes.'
      • 1
      Travis I would like the ability to use html in the activity feed. This opens up a lot of opportunity such as posting advertisements, banner ads, video embed, etc.
      • 1
      Donna I see we have an improvement coming for 4- Improve Activity Feed Action, not a search but an improvement. It was listed in this blog, http://blog.socialengine.com/2015/07/09/introducing-the-se-php-4-9-0-roadmap/ and perhaps is what you want. The GIF support is also in that blog. Each item listed has a link to a github issue you can check. Perhaps many things on your list are already improved in the upcoming release.

    Block certain domains in links
    Hello,
    Sometimes I see spammers sharing links to malicious websites and I would like to know if is possible to block links to certains domains.

      • 1
      Eugene You need to block those spam accounts, not their posts. From my experience those are often automated bots and not real people. Which is good as bots are easier to trick.

      SE has some really simple trick for email on signup. But we have created a plugin Honeypot for this purpose(it was required fro custom projects to prevent spam). It has few different tricks to catch the bot on signup. And multiple hopeypot trap fields used randomly, so it's harder for the script to pass the signup.

      It works pretty good and we even had other SE developers purchasing this plugin for their clients and demo websites.
      • 1
      SocialEngine PHP MGR Hi [862,Leandro Rocha] , Currently you can block only censored words on your users' profiles and as well as on any plugins you have installed. You need to enter such words in the field "Censored Words" from "Admin" > "Settings" > "Spam and Banning Tools" section of your site. But it is not possible to block any links to certain domains and you would need to do code customization at your end to achieve this feature.

      Thanks!

    Social Engine is becoming worse each day pass
    Do not misunderstand me, but each day Social Engine is getting worse every day in comparison with their competitors:

    Just to know in a straight comparison with phpfox:

    1- Social Engine is more expensive. PHPfox out of box has more features that the Social Engine with a lesser price;
    2- Social Engine is heavy, so heavy that page load usually takes 5 or 6 seconds. PHPfox loads in 2 or 3 with same quantity of addons;
    3- Social Engine use an almost outdated technology with Zend Framework 1 and Mootools.
    4- Social Engine almost doesnt have is community to exchange experiences and ideas;
    5- The marketplace is a mess with several outdated plugins;
    6- The showcase is a mess with several websites that neither exist;
    7- There is no expectation of some improvement. There are no ideia about the next major release SE 5.0;

    If one year ago I knew it would be so disappointed with Social Engine, I probably stayed with phpfox. My experience just is not being worse because there is the Social Engine Addons Deleoper, otherwise would not have come here.

    Please Social Engine Team, show what you are made of. If you need help, just ask.

      • 1
      Florin "Social Engine is heavy, so heavy that page load usually takes 5 or 6 seconds" I agree and this is a real problem. On top of that, I will suggest to SE to create some quality standards and best coding practices for the MOD Developers and try to enforce them in the Marketplace.

      The Forum component (out of the box) is very poor. I think this is an important element that will attract people to join niche communities and not creating groups on Facebook. The moderation tools are very basic and, the performance is bad. Try to import 1 million messages in the Forum , from 150k users and you will see it. We had to spend lot of energy and money to integrate SE with IP.Board as a decent alternative.

      My last feedback will go to the mobile experience. 75% of our community members are using mobile. But all the mobile versions out there (and the mobile apps), default and add-ons, are far from doing a good job. Why:because the mobile framework is overloaded with unnecessary application logic and heavy presentation. The code is not optimised for mobile. I will strongly suggest SE invests in a mobile first experience and this will really give it a strong competitive advantage.
      • 1
      Donna Hi everyone! Thanks for posting and for this feedback. We definitely want to hear your concerns and appreciate your time in posting. We want to assure you that we are working to improve. I’m working to get you more information which might come by way of a blog post if possible. We do expect to roll out some improvements within the next two weeks. We have a release also coming soon and are working towards a release for v4.9 as well.

      As you all know, I’ve been brought in from phpFox and am the Chief Evangelist on the SocialEngine team now. This should help to bring information, documentation and other forms of help so you know that you are not alone and we do truly care about every one of our clients.

      In addition to these helpful posts with feedback for concerns, we would love to see some new posts about things we are doing right so we know when we’re going in the right direction. Both ends of the spectrum help us to improve things for you all.
      • 1
      Eugene While I agree with some of your points, I can't agree that phpfox is better. We have tried development for both platforms (and tried other platforms as well). At this moment SE is still better than alternatives within the same price range. They have that momentum before competitors and currently largely due to the amount of 3rd party plugins.

      > The marketplace is a mess with several outdated plugins

      We have provided suggestions how to improve this. SE promised us some new marketplace for some time, but I believe there were some issues with that. The main complexity here I believe is the amount of plugins out there.

      > Social Engine is heavy, so heavy that page load usually takes 5 or 6 seconds. PHPfox loads in 2 or 3 with same quantity of addons;

      Zend Framework isn't something small, but it's configurable. But Zend Framework is stable and can handle the load if configured correctly

      > The showcase is a mess with several websites that neither exist

      We have a similar problem. A lot of interesting projects hide the platform they are based on (for numerous reasons) and require NDA before the development.

      > There is no expectation of some improvement. There are no ideia about the next major release SE 5.0

      SE team promised the update to ZF3. I believe we will hear if they are serious about this in the next update on their blog.

      My overall conclusion that even that SE has it's own cons it's still better than available alternatives. But without serious updates (ex. migration to ZF3, jquery, etc.) that won't remain forever.

    Sticky Elements
    Hello,
    I feel that the activity feed area is a bit empty because after some scrolls no sidebar is displayed. I was thinking in to sticky some sidebar widget (may be the advertise) to scroll along the feed, however I couldnt achieve this independent of the solution I try (jquery, css, java). Someone was already successful with this task?

      • 1
      Eugene If you are looking for Sticky menus - you might consider checking our plugin Custom Menu http://www.socialengine.com/customize/se4/mod-page?mod_id=1180

      It's lightweight and you won't need to use any additional js framework (jquery)
      • 1
      SocialEngine PHP MGR Hi @Leandro, This is just a suggestion, you can avoid the empty sidebars by placing some more widgets in the side columns of the page, so that when it is loaded, at first it would not look empty in the sides and only after some scrolling it would show empty in the sides. And you can accordingly set the "Overall Feed Length" from "Admin" > "Settings" > "General Settings" section of your SE site, so that the length of the overall feed can be adjusted in a way that it shows the feed content along with the side widgets.
      Thanks!

    Advertise Question
    Hello,
    I am trying to setup the advertise correclty, buy I am facing a small problem: the equality view feature. Lets suppose the following, I have a advertisement with more than 50k views and I would like to add a new advertisement. I noticed that the new advertisement will be displayed until it reach the same quantitiy of views from the advertise with the highest quantity of views, what seems a bit odd if you consider that the new advertise will be heavily displayed. There is some way to rotate the ads without this condition? If

    Buddypress Importer
    Hello,
    I have a old buddypress community that I would like to transfer to Social Engine. There is some importer plugin, even that outdated, or the whole process should be done manually?
    I am interested in to import not only users, but also, groups, status updates and others content.

      SocialEngine PHP MGR Hi @Leandro, We couldn't find a tool for importing a Buddypress community onto SocialEngine along with all the content, but there are some third party plugins available from our third party developers which can be used to import the members only from a Buddypress community. But still we suggest you to contact our third party developers from http://www.socialengine.com/customize/se4/developers to check if there is any tool or another possible way that allows the import of the whole content.
      Thanks!

    Activity Feed Order
    Hello. I am not sure if this is how the feed works or if is a bug, so I would like to ask.

    In general (facebook and others social networks) if someone comment in a old activity this activity bump to the top refreshing the discussion, however when someone comment in a Social Engine feed it still in the position where it was based in the chronological order. The feed is suposed to work like this?

      SocialEngine PHP MGR Hi @Leandro, In SocialEngine PHP, feeds are displayed in the order of creation in Activity Feed that is the latest feed appears at the top and the next less recent feeds are shown below it and so on. And whenever a new activity feed is created, then that generated feed is shown on the top (based on the Display settings of that activity feed item done from Activity Feed settings in admin panel). Now, for example if X made a comment on an old blog post that was posted by Y, then if you have selected in the Activity Feed Setting to show the feed for the action type "when a user (subject) comments on another user's (object) blog entries" to be shown in Main Feed, then a feed will be shown for that action performed as "X commented on Y's blog entry". But the feed for the creation of that blog entry by Y will remain at its original position in the activity feed and only the newer comment based feeds for the newer action performed on that previous post will appear at top.

      Hope you understand our point here, Thanks!
