    For consistency and simplification's sake
    Hello,

To keep things simple and clean, why not keep the same layout on all page..
For example, My eyes get thrown out when I click on a post.. i don't know postsed it and it seems like you are not giving the post'ee the importance it deserves.

I should clearly see who posted it, their followers.. etc

please check this ruff image i made.

    thanks

monti I cant edit my post.. sorry about all the grammer errors. (why can't I edit a post?)

Scroll the "recent activity" for more info
What do you think to add the possibility to scroll into the box of "recent activity" for more information that you have lose?!

    Thanks.

monti That would be cool... maybe even a "more" button that takes you to a page with the full history.

    Posting too complicated
I believe great websites are about what you leave out :). The simplicity of making a post on SE4 was that you only really had to choose what to post. The average user may not want to choose between "Link," "Topic," "Photo" etc. I think Facebook did a great job in their style, give people one box to post in and Facebook auto-detects if it should be a link, a video or a normal post.

Alex Benzer Thanks [392,twilightwarrior]. We will work on refactoring the add post modal w/ auto-detection. There's some in place, but it would be better if tabs weren't necessary. Very good suggestion.

twilightwarrior Hopefully these comments will be of benefit. Not trying to put down a great effort.

    Sub Categories for posting.
It would be really great if you guys give us the ability to create sub categories.
For example, I can add "classifieds" as a category and as a sub category I can create cars, computers.. etc

    Maybe its possible already?
    thanks

Add facebook/twitter share buttons on the "add post" box
    Hello,

I really think adding a very visible facebook/twitter share buttons on the "add post" box is a must.
    Thanks

s.ziyad yes, they are a must

    Zend Framework 2 (SE4)
    Guys, I know it's a beta for SE5.
But it will be really interesting to hear your opinion.
There was a release of Zend Framework 2 STABLE.
Do you plan to upgrade Zend Framework version used in SE4? According to Zend website they plan to support the old version with security fixes, but no longer than 18-24 months

Privacy & Terms in another place
When i scroll the page, i can't see this informations, maybe you can put it in another place for this theme?
      • 2
Alex Benzer OK we've added it back to the mini menu in the top right corner. It's only visible there on the board theme (which is the one you posted above)
      • 1
Alex Benzer Good call. Any suggestions on where else we can put it? Maybe in the mini menu in the top right corner?
      • 1
monti Good catch. every time you scroll it disappears. it needs to be always anchored

    Transparency about SE5.
It has been about 2 weeks since I got admitted to BETA SE5. First impression was good as it was something I wanted in SE4(I thought it was an upgrade). But as time went by and reading peoples comment all over, my mind crashed with to many questions.. what ! / Why? and all confusions...Well those things apart.

    If we could know ...

1: how much will be charge for self hosting it by Webligo. Will we have to pay for upgrades? like upgrade from 5.1 - 5.2 will cost us few dollars?
2: Will we be able to view the source code? Like white labeled SE 4. OR is it only through API we can modify it.
3: What plugins are you going to release it? (OR no plugins .. features implemented only via core engine. ) If plugins what is the price range?
4: What is the time range for purchase release? Weeks/Months ? from now...
5: How long do you plan to support the self hosted SE5? (Year / Decade ?)
6: Do you plan to release SE6 just because you think its cool? How would this SE6 (If released) effect SE 5 customers?
7: Up time guarantee you can promise ? usually its 99.9% for most companies.
8: How fast will the upgrade be for each version. Days?Weeks?Months? for 5.1 to 5.2 and so on.
9: SE5 is in test phase and SE4 customers are the tester. We help you with ideas, Bugs, suggestions, knowledge, new technology, reference to ,js concepts, features we(paying customers) like, This and that and what not.. you probably have hundreds of list and growing just form SE 4 customers (as only they are allowed on the site)....we are all behaving as a TEAM with good/bad/ugly criticism which makes you think even better. These effort dont come up easily but with interests. I wish you respect it and provide generous support with future updates.

I am excited to hear back about this queries. But I hope it wont take months. My college is starting end of this month and wont have time to concentrate on SE. Sooner the better for always planin ahead.

    Feedback about SE5
Firstable, congrats for this great implementation.
My opinion about this version( in a positive way of course)

1- I miss a lot of implementations like, groups, events, blogs, aswell the possibility to add contact, and see that on your profile.

2- Its seems like Pinterest, of course its not bad at all but for a socialnetwork i think is better to make people interact. Here the only way is Post, Thumbs up or down.

    3. Profile page is not really atractive, can be good if the user could change the cover image like on facebook, and also see bigger photos there.

    4. Albums photos, as i saw here there is no way to load more that one photo a time and create album thats not good.

I hope all this thinks dont disturb anyone is my opinion, and of course my needs.

    Thanks and keep it going...

      RN I totally agree...

As others said....WTH are you thinking here. You log in...you don't intuitively know what to do. It looks like a bad version of twitter meets pinterest meets stumbleupon meets some old comment ranking system so far....it doesnt feel like a community one bit...not one bit...not at all.... but rather this 'randomness' where people just post stuff (is it sticky? does it make me want to come back to look at a cute pic...to interact with others...to have an in-depth discussion?)....doesnt feel like I could easily connect with someone or even find someone I want to connect with...doesnt feel "personal" in any way so far

You're creating and highlighting everything bad that is happening to facebook right now and what happened to myspace....meaning a place where people post random crap, photos, and memes .....all day long-- and there is very little community. Then you have this part of facebook that is more like everything good was about SE4 .... subgroups/pages -- bigger pictures -- the ability for those people who arent myspacing facebook up -- to really add their lives to the pages.

I know your prevailing answer is that "this is one theme, its early" and the most horrible comment ive seen from an admin "we're not trying to be a community anymore....its all about linking people away" or something like that (seriously? linking....people.....away?)

If you're just focusing on social sharing of links and people not being social with one another then its not the next evolutionary stage....its you sniffing too much "now news" from pinterest and someones inner love of stumbleupon which has members but you dont feel connected to them at all

I dont see how i could connect with someone on mutual interest (same city, region, interests). Migrating away from clubs/groups is a big mistake to me (it was one of your most exciting features -- and what even people on facebook adore....meaning having pages/sub-groups to follow ..., its what marketers are still setting up shop on sites like facebook and twitter to do -- garner people from high reach vehicle outlets --- i dont see how a marketer could leverage this platform at this time if they wanted to join someones social network on SE5). Again -- think about the marketers/advertisers/businesses -- whats interesting about them advertising on a site where you link people away from

This is not interesting at all -- #nobutterflies #notinglysensations

(Wow i have to share a link to even submit to this ?forum?)...so SE5 is a link-away system?)

Don't link people away -- thats not good for making money....don't create a link-away system

Does a VIP or subject matter expert want to sign up for this to garner new followers?....how could they. Ugggh (so far)

Think business...think future....thin RETENTION....think time spent....think ease.....think community (please?). This is coming from a guy who has worked at ad agencies, huge websites in marketing/sales, and has his own major company now in advertising who wouldnt be one bit interested in advertising here at this time.

I know this is early -- and these are my early comments -- hopefully in 60 days i will be able to say yaaay love it....but for now -- i can only say WTF and viva SE4

Frank this is what we are waiting for... groups events, blogs, forums, profiels, pages, messaging

      monti [357,mimosalguero]

1- Use SE4, it has everything you mentioned in your first point.
2- SE5 is different as the team has mentioned numerous times, its a different tool all together. (I do think that they shouldn't have called it SE5). maybe SECommunities or something so people don't get confused.
3- I don't think (and this is my personal opinion) people care about their profiles as much as they used to 8-10 years ago (the myspace age). Profiles are a waste of time, it confuses people and fragments conversation into 1000s of pages. Profiles should be just that, profiles... Not a place to have discussions.
4- Average user uploads their photos on facebook or google but I get that some people might like this, so this could be a cool add on.

I do understand that your needs differ from mine so this is my opinion,

      Thanks

What do you guys think of SE5 so far ?
So far I like it , of course we will have to see about pricing and all of that but I think I will give it a try once is ready
      • 2
William Grant So far think i'm sticking with SE4 this is fast but no functions that suits my users needs, until I see plugins working then this is of no use. Love the idea of self hosting and am looking at alternatives to bring hosting costs down.

Danny I'm trying new ideas to see how it works 1 adult site and one discussion board lets see if people like it
      • 1
Frank I agree. this is not really a community software...it's a software for comments. My users want to create pages etc.... where are the blogs, the videos, the forum, the pages, the music ......

    Improve Search- Additional Ideas?
    Please improve the search engine.

Idea 1-Show the search results depending on the section that members are browsing. As an example; if I am in the member's area and I search by "Edwin" the result will show me all members called "Edwin" and sorted alphabetically. In addition to have members ordered alphabetically; please ensure that the format is kept as it looks in the members section. Right now it seems that is only searching by "posts" but I like that you are maintaining the format of the "posts".

Idea 2- Alternatively and my preference; please have a drop down menu close to the search field (refer to picture) and online members could choose the section that they would like to search (i.e Members, Posts, Groups etc.) and the results/format are presented as explained on Idea 1.

Is imperative to have an effective search field while the communities are evolving and postings/members/groups are more difficult to find.

P.D. SE team- Congratulations and outstanding job with SE5! SE5 is heading to the right direction while you are engaging/listening your customers

Sergey What do you think connect Idea 1 and idea 2. For example: If I go to groups's page then drop down menu will change to groups, if I go to members's page drop down menu will change to members and if I want search groups on members's page I only choose Groups in drop down menu and I continue search. Excuse for my english.

      Lauri I agree :)

John Boehr Great ideas! You're correct in that right now it only searches posts. Thanks!

SE5 "not bad" but does need a new product name......
Looking good, smooth fast and clean. Code looks fantastic and simple. I wonder how fast and smooth SE5 will run with ...lets say 100 plugins from third party developers. Bugs will always be a problem especially when using third party plugins, so many plugins each with there own codes unless third party developers can stick to one simple rule....work together. Thumbs up from me............but need to see more.....and yes I will want to run SE5 on my own servers.....
      • 4
Hire-Experts I suppose that Webligo will allow to host some part of the project on your server i.e. your project will make API calls to SE5. I hope Alex or Shaun will tell us more about API and SE5 capabilities in the coming weeks via new blog post at SocialEngine.com
BTW fully agree with the naming of SE5 ;)

Simon OK, let's try this. How would SE hosting cope if I were to put together a site using SE5 and all possible third party plugins. Would SE be able to provide hosting for lets say 1 million users all uploading photo's, video's, chat, comments, emails as well as possible video chat plugins. Just think of the expense for me to basically rent there servers. How much of my site would be hosted using SE? I'm sure there are alot of you out there who wish they had 1 million users, but WHAT IF........
