Terms and Conditions, privacy and cookies
As much as this is a feature request / suggestion, this kind of stems to both Social Engine and all 3rd parties.

As SE knows their script inside and out, I was wondering if SE would look into providing templates of Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy and Cookie policy for all countries that potentially buy their products.

As cookie policies you have to list all the cookies your site has and what each does etc, and this can be hard as us buyers dont fully know all the cookies that are implimented and their functions.

This cookie request goes to 3rd party devs also, if SE makes it mandatory for them to disclose all cookies names, and functions to the buyers.

And if the 3rd party can provide any suggestions based on terms and conditions that could arrise as per that plugins function.

Generic templates are hard for social networks, esp as there is unique functions other sites dont have

Mikel Coreclark Hei. I have had some experience in creating terms and cons and cookies.

Trust me, Its a tricky path to walk.
However , I have quiet a good T and C page, privacy page and a basic section on cookies. Also a section on rule breaking, punishment system, harassment, bullying, stalking, slander, criminal activity, selling, personal information (as my members have to register their personal address for security and legal reasons).
FELL FREE TO COPY AND ALTER WHAT YOU LIKE. that best helps you.
My pages are best set for the UK but some clauses relate to international territories and laws. I have kept everything simple and generic so it does not scare people away plus most members will not read them anyway. But these can give you a starting hand.
here is my site url: majuuna.com
      hope this helps

Donna Thank you for your feedback.

This is not something we can do as there are too many areas to consider. Countries/States/Provinces, etc all can have their own requirements.

However, there are a lot of places online that offer assistance with these concerns. For my own site, after I crafted my terms and privacy policies, I had a local attorney that is versed in internet laws look them over. Due to legalities involved, we recommend clients do the same.

For cookie policies, clients can check for recommendations from different sources. Since many use Google and other analytics, there are recommendations at those sites for how to handle the cookie issue.

Having users be required to agree to your terms and privacy policies is a great idea as they are acknowledging that they agree before they join. Generally, the privacy policy contains details for information collected (cookies).

Here's a basic cookie policy from Vimeo which is a good example: https://vimeo.com/cookie_policy

      and one from LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/legal/cookie-policy

That should help you see the various ways in which your site can use cookies and how to put a policy together. I keep mine in the privacy policy.

Note when creating your policies not to copy any from sources such as what I linked. They have copyright policies and this can fall under those policies. Plus, with Google's policy against duplicate posts, you could also get in a mess with Google if copying policies from other sites. It's best to just use them as guidelines to put your own policies together and then have legal sources look them over.

      Hope this was helpful.

Licences and callbacks to verify products
This is something that's bothered me for a while.

more so played on my mind.

can the process of the licences with SE and 3rd parties be explained.

there was a day basically that I installed a plugin, and when activating on install, it wouldn't have it. I searched online for the devs website and it was temporarily down.
soon as site was up again, the plugin installed.

there was another time also where I was on my site and a plugin completely failed to work, the widgets just wasn't displaying, I cleared cache everything and still no joy.... and discovered the devs website was down for maintenance...

now these issues coild could have been 100% coinsidental.
ans I never questioned it until someone asked me to help them on their se site.

but they asked this question on licences.

they asked do these plugins only work based on the companies still being active.
they said what if I buy this plugin install it, their site is down for maintence, database errors or they decided to give it all up.....

what happens then, because how would you save settings of a plugin, that shows the callback product key code that's linked to their website.

so yea how does this work, could we spend thousands on our site and potentially because the licences communicate with devs, if they left or site was down, does that kill all our plugins by that company?

and if their site is down for maintenance, does that kill the plugin from functioning until their site is up and running again????

Donna We do understand our clients' concerns and we will keep this topic open for discussions. Feel free to discuss this but please do keep confidential issues private and please do not post any coding examples for any that do come and respond.

[508,PoeticJustice] we will be considering our clients' concerns with regards to callbacks that keep an open connection. We will be discussing matters and have answers soon.
      • 1
SocialEngineAddOns [508,PoeticJustice] , SocialEngineAddOns licensing system callbacks to verify valid product installs only. Our plugins will keep on working fine even if our website goes down; there is absolutely no dependence there.

PS: Topics such as Licensing system are highly confidential and should not be discussed on public forums.

You can do a PM in case you have any queries.
      • 1
Donna We've answered in the other thread asking about the cores by third parties. I'll have more details today I hope. We don't want callbacks such as you describe. That's the biggest concern from clients today and prospective clients as well.

How to add a payment gateway other than 2CO and paypal?
I was using 2CO but they said they will not allow service for our website.
Paypal don't allow India to India (Indian currency).
So I was thinking to add any other payment gateway.
Earlier I asked but they said only 2 payment gateway supported as of now on SE.
But yesterday I checked socialEngine Addons website they have use something else.
So Just wanted to know Can I or I cant? incase I want to use other payment gateways.

3rd-Party Cores going away? ADMINs able to view some SE2Dev discussions?
    Two-fold (but related) question:
    1.  In an email exchange with 8 3rd-Party Devs re: their upgrades to 4.9.xx, one of them mentioned (no I won't say who) that their Core would be removed soon as per a request from SE to all Devs.  Is this true?

    2.  The above (as well as many items related to 4.9.xx upgrade over the past 6+ months, such as MarketPlace, reviews, etc) seem to be disclosed/discussed with 3rd-Party Devs but not with ADMINs.  Obviously there may be some things that may be no business of ADMINs but there are others that may be of interest (for planning purposes, input/suggestions, etc.).  Is it simply a policy issue to not share things like this with us ADMINs?  Also, am I the only ADMIN that's interested in this type of info (i.e. because if so, I would never ask SE to make changes for one ADMIN, so this Topic could be deleted)?

      • 1
PoeticJustice As in removing their core, do you mean the devs basic plugins that have to be installed prior to a plugin, is set to be removed.

Hell yea im up for them cores to become obsolete, except social engine solutions basic core because that has features and widget that I find useful
      • 1
      Mikel Coreclark Hei GS.
Just 1 question, Have you asked the devs why they are to remove Cores ?
This is not confirmed by SE or any 3rd party Devs so should not be taken as fact.
If I remember correctly or not, a long time ago on several release notes by devs, I read that as new SE tech and script is released '3rd party dev cores' would not be needed and may/should be fazed out over time.

I don't expect devs to stop using cores if it was going to harm their products at this time or in the future unless they had updates for products already in use.
On an older site I had, a few apps/modules started off with cores but then devs released updates that made cores not needed. This had no impact on my site, in fact things worked better.
Since you have a greater relationship with devs than I do maybe you can ask for confirmation ?

4.9.xx Plugin List is Alphabetical but Isn't?
I'm sure this isn't an SE issue (which is why I'm asking here first rather than initially posting an issue @ github).

What is actually controlling the order in this list?  For example, I have some items that are not alpha (based on the displayed information) but are (if only looking at the Plugin name).  Example is HE - Credits and HE - Virtual Gifts - the first is in alpha based on 'C' and the second based on 'V' but due to the 'HE' before it, it looks out of order.

When this new feature was discussed (not sure if here or github or both), I mentioned this would only be userful/accurate if it was consistent - and SE would have to require Devs to be consistent (which they may have been).  I suggested that being alpha would be helpful if the Dev name preceeded it (which based on my list, SES and SEAO are doing, but 4 other devs are not).  So this new 'alpha' order isn't really alpha due to Devs still doing whatever they wish to do.

Not sure what ADMINs would prefer about the sequence.  Although I prefer to be alpha (with Dev name preceeding Plugin name, in order to keep them grouped together), others may wish differently.  So I guess I have a two-fold question here:
    A)  Specifically, what is this order based on
    B)  What format do Devs prefer (Dev + Plugin names or just Plugin name)?

      • 1
Donna As a site owner, I prefer them to be Alpha order. Yes, it is hard to find plugins if they are not. I don't add a lot of plugins and only use the ones I make but I have seen client sites with many plugins and it is very hard to find things without sorting.

As a dev, I prefer them alpha as well - Dev name with product name. Or at least dev abbreviation with product name.

Content Privacy Settings - honour the settings
I remember seeing this recently as a Bug that was fixed (at least in some SE modules).  This post is primarily for SE to respond.

My question here is this: Have 3rd-Party Devs been notified of this and urged to fix their similar bugs?  For example, Plugins from one specific Dev experienced this same issue since I began using their Plugins (2015), but they refused to address the issue.  Now that it's a known-SE Issue, they are willing to fix their related bugs as well.  But, although 3+ months ago they said they would fix this in 7-8 weeks, when I asked last week I was informed they haven't even started (it seems security/privacy isn't as important as other issues).  So I'm wondering:
    A) Has SE notified/requested Devs to fix these related bugs (if they have any)
    B) If above is Yes, how urgent or 'required' is this request (i.e. so that Devs will address this exposure issue immediately rather than whenever, or not at all)

      • 1
Donna We have not notified developers as it is their responsibility to fix their privacy issues. They will see that we've fixed it though as we will definitely post the changelogs which they all like to see. :)

4.9.3 has all of the plugins (SE plugins) fixed for privacy btw.

Android and iOS app for Social engine website
I have a web platform built upon social engine. I want to create Android and iOS apps for the same. Please suggest the appropriate plugins for this and can the Social Engine PHP code be directly migrated to the Mobile app?

      SocialEngineAddOns [246165,Ankit Bhardwaj]

We have developed 100% Native Android and iOS Apps specially for SocialEngine PHP website. SocialEngine PHP code is already merged in our Mobile Apps with SocialEngine REST API. You can go through our REST API plugin from here :

gs I personally use the mobile apps by SEAO. What I especially like is that when adding Menu Items (for SEAO Plugins) you may use their built-in mobile app functionality (for their Plugins that have been coded accordingly) or use the standard webview option (which I believe must be used for non-SEAO Plugins). In addition, they offer packages to either publish using their Store Account (less expensive, but less control) or your own (more expensive, but more control).

Although I haven't used the mobile apps by Hire-Experts, I have used some of their other Plugins and their support (both excellent). They're another great Dev. (btw - I selected SEAO Mobile Apps primarily because the majority of the Plugins on the site are from them, so for compatibility and support reasons, this made the most sense). Check out the links Donna provided for more info.
      • 1
Donna Are you looking to make your own or use a ready-made plugin? The marketplace would have some mobile apps in the mobile apps section if you mean ready made. If you want to make your own, I have a thread on my site that shows some links for mobile app wrappers.

Force users to flush their cache
Im official about to update live site after loads of testing. One common thing that happened and seemed to happen on all staging servers was cache issues, loading up old data etc.Even when i go into dev mode, flush the cache there, actual members still seem to see the issue, not everyone is savy enough to clear internet settings etc.Is there a good way to force this, via htaccess or anything?
      • 1
PoeticJustice Its not that i want to exactly force the flush of cache, its just i noticed that since SE dropped icons for fontawesome, there has been some weird duplication icons in the activity page......... and only way to fix is flushing cache.

Sending an email asking uses to flush your cachhe feels very awkard.

Wasnt sure if the leverage cache control would fix something like this

      example below

      <IfModule mod_expires.c>
      ExpiresActive On
      ExpiresByType image/jpg "access 1 year"
      ExpiresByType image/jpeg "access 1 year"
      ExpiresByType image/gif "access 1 year"
      ExpiresByType image/png "access 1 year"
      ExpiresByType text/css "access 1 month"
      ExpiresByType text/html "access 1 month"
      ExpiresByType application/pdf "access 1 month"
      ExpiresByType text/x-javascript "access 1 month"
      ExpiresByType application/x-shockwave-flash "access 1 month"
      ExpiresByType image/x-icon "access 1 year"
      ExpiresDefault "access 1 month"

gs My concern (as a User) is that I'd never want an app to automatically flush my browsers cache - ever. Yes, I can see where it could be useful, but it can also prevent other apps from running properly. Some Users may not mind if their cookies/etc. were removed, others might. But there are other more crucial apps (for example, I've used accounting and manufacturing apps) that are web-based that if the cache was flushed by another app, it would require rekeying data which would not be acceptable. I can see this as a User setting in a Browser (i.e. every X minutes automatically clear cache) but for a business to decide to do this automatically to all their Users is IMHO 'not cool' :) even if it's beneficial to the App. IMHO, Inter-app interference is not a good thing :( What I wish browsers could do is clear cache per Tab (ex. when I've got 10-20 Tabs open and I wish to clear some of the SE Tabs but not other SE Tabs or other websites). This often occurs when I've got 2-4 different sites open (dev, testing, staging, live, SE 4.8.13, SE 4.9.xx, etc) and I wish to clear cache for all Tabs for one of those sites but leave the others alone.

Mikel Coreclark Hei> I'm sorry if I don't fully understand your question.
From what I know about flushing cache. there are 2 locations that you can flush.
1 is on your admincp and the second is on your hosting server.
Sometimes just flushing your admincp is not enough, you may need to clear your hosting server cache. This should clear most or all of the unwanted data and old updates.

as for getting members to clear their personal PC / device cache, you wont have any control over that. you could however message or send an onsite notice to members and ask them to clear their cache ??
Some systems like mine (windows 10) has a built in cache delete setting so when ever I exit internet my browser and cache are cleared automatically. This is a setting set as an option for most devices that I know of.

    "Like" customizing
I want to use an alternate term/icon for the standard "Like" in the Like-Comments-Delete-Share menu.  Any suggestions?  Can it be done?

You may contact us here: https://www.socialengineaddons.com/contact for further discussion on this.
      • 1
Mikel Coreclark Hei. It can be done but there could be negative reactions.
As all actions such as 'like' 'share' 'comment' are scripted and have pathways and links, you may have to alter script which will have a negative impact on your SE licence/terms.

In some cases all you need to do is alter words in the 'language' section
But in my experience 'like' is a universal action that everyone recognises. and therefore best left as 'like'
I have broken parts of my old site by doing similar action / changes.

What you are best off doing is looking for an app/module that can add such changes to your site. there are great developers that can make one for you.
The best I know that I have used are:
      Scripttechs (donna)
      social engine addons.
      There are others also.

SocialEngineAddOns Hello [508,PoeticJustice] , all licenses of our SocialEngineAddOns products are non-transferable. For re-selling our software, which would lead to transfer of license, you need explicit permission of SocialEngineAddOns by submitting details of the new licensee. For this, please contact us from here: https://www.socialengineaddons.com/contact .

PoeticJustice Please can you confirm this [81,SocialEngineAddOns]

It was a friend who asked me, he doesnt want to resell individual plugins and to ask yourself to transfer to others account. He simply wants to sell his account.

If its not allowed then that is very sad. Id be upset to buy a BMW then not allowed to sell it because its not used.

    Handling Menuitems
Its such a basic thing like If there are multiple member levels people would like to customize who can view what menu item. There is no answer from any of the socialengine related forums at all. Please do post if there are any effective methods to achieve too.
    Amarnath S Gauravarjanam

      • 1
SocialEngineSolutions [220495,varshaan] Yes, as Donna said, it seems to be useful suggestion. And also, there can be 2 aspects:
      a. If the menu item is coming from a plugin, then there is a setting in the admin panel of the plugin to enable / disable viewing of that plugin based on member level (menu item will not come in case if viewing not allowed), b. You have created a new page and new menu and you want to limit the menu item of this page to some Member Levels, then instead of creating pages from Layout Editor, you can use our "Page Builder and Shortcodes Plugin: https://www.socialenginesolutions.com/social-engine/page-builder-and-shortcodes-plugin/" to create pages which has option to Hide / Show menu item of that page to specific member levels.

Let me know if this helps, otherwise if you need it customized you can contact our team at: support@socialenginesolutions.com
      • 1
      Donna Hi Amarnath,

Thanks for posting. This is the only official SocialEngine forum and this is the first time I've seen you post it here. :)

This sounds like a good improvement if a member level does not have permission to view or post in that plugin then the menu should not show to them.

Is that what you mean or do you mean something else?

I am not sure if this plugin does what you want, https://www.socialengine.com/marketplace/app/advanced-menus-plugin and tried to search for more "menu" plugins but didn't find any. It is possible there is another one that I missed. You could check with the expert that made the plugin I linked to see if it allows for viewing based on member levels and I'm sure they will let you know.
